Hi, I’m Dana!
I’m a gardener, traveler, and the writer behind Beyond My Garden Gate. What began as a little experiment in blogging became something I didn’t expect—a reason to seek out beautiful gardens wherever I travel and share them with others.
I originally created Beyond My Garden Gate while learning my way around WordPress. But somewhere along the way, the practice site became a passion project of its own. I realized that when I traveled, some of the places I remembered most weren’t necessarily the famous landmarks—they were the gardens.

Today, I travel to botanical gardens, historic estates, conservatories, Japanese gardens, and other remarkable green spaces, looking beyond the flowers to discover the stories, people, and places that make each garden worth visiting.
My goal is simple: to help you discover gardens worth traveling for—and give you the practical information you need to plan your own visit.
Why Gardens?
I’ve always been a gardener, so when I travel, I naturally find myself looking for gardens to visit. Over time, I realized they were becoming some of my favorite travel experiences.
A garden tells you something about a place that you might not discover anywhere else. Climate, history, architecture, food and culture all find their way into the landscape. And sometimes it’s something much simpler—a beautiful path, an unfamiliar plant, an old stone wall, or a quiet bench that makes you want to stay awhile.
That’s what I love about garden travel. You don’t have to be an expert gardener to enjoy it. You just have to be curious about what might be waiting beyond the gate.
